Google Workspace's second global survey, involving 10,000 workers across Gen Z and millennial demographics, reveals profound insights into how young leaders (aged 22-39) are integrating Artificial intelligence (AI) into their professional lives. The research highlights this demographic as early adopters, viewing AI primarily as a co-pilot that enhances, rather than replaces, human capabilities. A significant 78% of young leaders are already utilizing generative AI at work, demonstrating a strong embrace of this evolving technology.
The survey outlines numerous benefits perceived and experienced by these professionals. A striking 91% believe AI will ultimately improve their job quality, while 84% feel well-prepared for its impact. AI is predominantly leveraged for creative tasks, with 60% using it for brainstorming, drafting emails, and developing presentations. Additionally, 50% employ AI for administrative duties like summarizing documents and scheduling. Consequently, 56% report dedicating more time to strategic thinking, indicating AI's role in elevating their work from mundane to more impactful. These young leaders see AI as a crucial tool for boosting productivity, fostering creativity, and accelerating career advancement, with 86% expressing a desire for more employer-provided AI training.
Despite the widespread adoption and perceived advantages, young leaders are also acutely aware of AI's potential pitfalls. The survey identifies key concerns, including the spread of misinformation (82%), potential job displacement (78%), and data privacy issues (75%). These findings underscore a nuanced understanding of AI, recognizing its transformative power alongside its inherent challenges. Overall, the research positions young leaders not just as users of AI, but as active participants shaping its future in the workplace, leveraging it for growth while navigating its complexities.
